Lagrangian points are five in number. They exist in the plane of the orbit of one body around another at which a small third body can remain stationary with respect the others.
For example, such systems of points exist around the Earth and the Moon, around the Sun and the Earth, and around any other such pairs of large celestial bodies.
Lagrangian points are known to collect small bodies such as asteroids.
They are useful for the positioning of artificial satellites.
